Welcome to our community LovelyLadyLatina!
Red is one of the hardest colors to paint over. But, there are a few options to make your painting experience easier.
Option 1: Once you have your room color picked out, you can ask the paint associate at your local store to tint a primer similar to your desired color. In most cases the primer will be lighter than the top coat. You will want to use a premium primer, such as Kilz Premium, because it is thicker than other primers. After the primer has dried, you will apply your paint. Most of the time people apply two coats of paint.
Option 2: You can use a paint and primer in one, such as Behr Ultra or Glidden Duo. I have see first hand these paints cover red. It will still take 2 coats to cover, but you shouldn't need more than that to cover the red.
